On Friday September 21st Carpe Ventum departed Middle River and had a picture perfect sail across the bay into the rising moon. As she neared the eastern shore she tacked for Bodkin Creek and sailed into a beautiful sunset. As darkness settled on the creek Carpe Ventum set her anchor and began preperations for an evening on the water. In the morning she found she had been sharing the creek with Windependant who had arrived just ahead of her the night before. After a brief radio conversation Windependant wieghed anchor and was warped along side Carpe Ventum to await the rest of the fleet. On Saturday September 22nd, 2007 ten vessels from various ports met fair wind and calm seas as they followed in the wake of the advance vessels. By mid afternoon twelve ships of the line rendezvoused on Bodkin Creek. All yachts in attendance proudly displayed their team spirit with many college football and NFL teams represented. The yachts included: Narsilion, Dulcinea, Fortune Hunter, Sly Fox, Windependant, Dolphin, Silent Running, Windsprint, Eternity, Xtasea, Pisano and the host Carpe Ventum. A wide assortment of tailgate foods were assembled and displayed on the foredeck of Carpe Ventum while several college games were monitored via radio and TV. A wonderful time was had as old friends got together and made some new friends. At 1630 hours the vessels succumbed to an inspection by the fleet captain's honored guests who deemed the following to be true: First in fleet was Silent Running bearing the colors of the Philadelphia Eagles, a close second was Xtasea bearing the regalia of the Pittsburgh Steelers and third place was declared to Sly Fox who represented the U.S. Marine Corp. The ranking of first and second greatly distressed the Fleet captain being a true Baltimore Raven fan, and it should be noted that he showed great restraint at allowing the festivities to proceed unencumbered after such an elaborate display of disrespect. At 1700 hours the fleet captain presented the fleet with a challenge of thier tailgate trivia knowledge and the following top 3 scores were reported: Narsilion with 60%, Silent Running with 50% plus 2 extra credits and Pisano with 50% plus 1 extra credit. Appropriate compensation was dispersed and the party continued well into the evening. On Sunday morning the early risers were rewarded with moderate winds to propel them home while the late sleepers were relegated to motoring. All in all it was a wonderful gathering and Carpe Ventum would like to thank all those who participated. Captain Chris Schultz s/v Carpe Ventum |
