We as NSHSA Members have a unique opportunity to receive the USCG OUPV Captain’s License (commonly referred to as the ‘Six Pack’) through SeaSchool at a significant discount. This would be a special class and testing period organized for our Membership and friends only.
The advantages for obtaining your Captain’s License are several:
- The continual improvement of our seamanship skill and knowledge level in most all areas of boat handling….for ‘both Captains’ of the boat.
- Insurance Discounts are available through most insurance carriers for this Education level. For example, BoatUS offers approximately 10%.
- The opportunity to pursue commercial activities such as boat deliveries, chartering, etc. if desired.
- The OUPV License is the foundation required to obtain more advanced license ratings.
The advantages of taking the OUPV Captain’s Course as a Group are:
- Course Location is selected where it is convenient for Members.
- Course Schedule is selected when it is convenient for attending Members; probably two weekends of Friday, Saturday, Sunday; then test on the 3rd weekend. Optional schedule: Three weekends of Saturday and Sunday and a fourth weekend for testing.
- Taking the course with sailing friends for comradeship and support.
- A significant discount on cost of the Sea School Tuition if we get at least 10 students per class.
OUPV Captain’s License Financial Investment
The financial cost of getting the OUPC Captain’s License is approximately $1,020.00 if a School is utilized. The cost estimate breakdown is approximately:
