INDEPENDENCE DAY
CELEBRATION and COOKOUT
Independence Day 2009 was one of those for the History Books….for the NSHSA Members participating in the Independence Day Celebration and Cookout, nothing could have been better.
The weather was made to order. Brilliant blue skies, mid-80s temps, low humidity, winds WNW at 15 to 20 knots made for an unusually comfortable day in July. The participating Member Boats attending the Independence Day Celebration came with every intention of celebrating. The residence of John and Linda Yates for this Raft-up was perfection; providing everyone with an option (anchoring, marina slips, or driving by car) that worked best for them. With waterfront access to Frog Mortar Creek, dinking in by the anchoring boats was very easy.
Members attending were:
| Aquila | Jo-Lin-Dy | Padozary | Sly Fox |
| Carpe Ventum | Kava-Kava | Phoenix Fire | Tomorrow Came |
| Eternity | Narsilion | SENA ‘Nuff | Windkist |
| Fortune Hunter | Orion | Silent Running | Windsprint |
Linda, John and Dylan did a marvelous job turning their yard into an Independence Day Picnic Ground complete with decorations, beach area, volley ball court, and picnic tables. The Independence Day Games were spectacular: Water Balloon Tossing was great fun, and an exciting World Championship Volleyball Game Series. The members of the winning Team were: Linda Ubelacker, Debbie Sabol, Tim Shipley; Ryan Borchardt, Tom Schmidt, Madison Sabol, and Zach Borchardt. The second place Team members were: Dylan Yates, Peter Terry, Chris Ubelacker, Nicole Shipley and friends. In spite of falling down (grass stains were prevalent) a bit more than the others, the adults played almost as well as the young adults
When the Grilling started, everyone was treated to a fabulous Cook-out BBQ featuring some of the best Brats, Dogs, Burgers, BBQ Pork, side dishes and desserts on the western shore.
As daylight faded, the clear cool night skies were alive with Fireworks…from the many local displays to the renowned Middle River Fireworks. The choice of direct viewing from the anchored boats or from the beach was a difficult one, and there was no wrong choice.
A simply fantastic day spent with special friends celebrating our Country’s Independence Day….nothing could have been better. A BIG THANK YOU to John, Linda and Dylan for sharing their lovely home with us, and to every one who attended making it a ‘VERY GOOD’ day.
