Worton Creek
Narsilion’s Favorite Anchorage:

There are two sections of Worton Creek suitable for anchoring and one very special location to drop the hook.

The First Section is the outside anchorage. It is good for hot summer nights when there is little wind or the wind is from the north and easterly.  Avoid this anchorage if there is a strong breeze from the West, So’west or Northwest.  The outside anchorage is a bit challenging for rafting due to breeze driven waves and power boat wakes.

The Second Section is call the inside anchorage and is where the large ‘mooring ball field’ used to be – this be on the west side of the creek.  East of the creek channel is shoal. This anchorage is suitable any time, though can become too ‘still’ during the hot summer months when there is little breeze. The only wind direction that this anchorage is susceptible to is from NNE.  The anchorage carries more water at the north end. Holding ground is soft mud.

If there is a spring tide or a blow-out tide, the inside anchorage may become a bit shoal and you most likely will have your keel in the mud, but you can usually power through.

Narsilion’s special location is named ‘Blind Duck Cove’, after the duck blind located on the shore.  This hole carries 5’0’ to approximately 20’ from the shore at low tide, and we find it a very peaceful location.

Attractions:

  1. Quiet Anchorage. Great for rafting. Sailors and Power Boaters alike have been respectful of keeping the peace. 6 knot rule in effect.
  2. Wildlife – always Bald Eagles, raccoons and sometimes deer to watch.
  3. Two creeks that make for good exploration by dink.
  4. Great fishing for the kids.
  5. The Worton Creek Marina has fuel, pump-out, ice, small pool, picnic area, and a store. There is also the Harbor House Restaurant at the top of the hill.
